Same markup for Yelp pages and social pages

Local structured data dumb question.Does it make sense to use sameAs markup for listing Yelp pages along with local FB and other local social accounts (Twitter/Bing/etc)? I`m hesitant to boost Yelp in some instances and wondering if this may help Yelp more than helping the host site.

  • Francois-Pierre Marcil: Great question, interested to know
  • E Dieter Martin: I wouldn`t look at it as a boost to Yelp, etc. It tells the bot scanning your site about all related listings. It makes perfect sense to me to offer that data than to have it scraped and misinterpreted.

Also, don`t look at sameAs as purely SEO related. Or structured data in general for that matter.
  • Don Vermeer: Agree. See Schema purely as explanation for dumb bots. You use it to make connections with other online entity`s and explain in deep details about those connections. So linking to review sites + socials + Wiki`s etc is a prefectly logical step.
  • Don Vermeer: Schema is a great SEO help, but not responsible for direct rankings or anything. So adding Schema does not improve rankings. It`s an indirect improvement..
  • Don Vermeer: There is no boosting involved :) So you are safe to link to Yelp
  • Roger Montti: It`s basically a way to pin down the entity that is the business. So if there`s a FB page, Angies List, Twitter and so on that relates directly to it then you can list those. If you prefer to not list Yelp then leave them out. But if it might be helpful to users then add it in.

Social Profile markup for Google Knowledge Panel has been deprecated. But, elsewhere Google says it may use it in future search features:

"Google can make general use of the sameAs property and other schema dot org structured data. Some of these elements may be used to enable future Search features, if they are deemed useful."
