Hey would you say this is this true, its not best practice redirect 404s which don`t have any new relevant page to redirect to, past value (link equity), or organic traffic/sessions. Just leave them as 404s?

  • Sam Mah: 301 is a redirect. 404 is for page not found. 😉
  • Jim Munro: Agreed. The redirect route would quickly turn into a maintenance nightmare unless it`s just a few and not likely to produce any more. 404`s are a fact of life. Googlebot doesn`t care. :)
  • Kris CzerwiÅ„ski: If the subpage has some good links then it`s worth redirecting to homepage if not I would stay with 404.
  • Becky Westmoreland: Likely yes - because if the content doesn`t match - Google will call them a soft 404 anyway
