Removing my WP website from Google

Hi guys! I`m trying to remove my WP website from Google and it`s not easy as you might think.

I don`t want to remove my site from Bing, Yahoo and other search engines, so checking "Discourage search engines from indexing this site" in WP dashboard is not an option.

I added in the 10 days ago and all my posts are still indexed.

Now I want to add:

User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow: /

In robots.txt but I`m not sure if that will only stop Google to crawl my site in the future but all posts will still be indexed? Do I maybe have first to ask Google to de-index my pages through Search Console and then to make the change to the robots.txt file?

If you have any idea how to stop Google only to index my content on a WP site, please let me know.

Thanks!

  • Kyle Hawk: You should be able to go into your Google Search Console and tell Google to de-index your site. Theoretically, whenever Google-Bot stumbles over your site again and sees that you are disallowing it, it will ignore you.

May I ask why you are trying to de-index from Google?
