Removing less important pages

I just found a client`s old wordpress dot com website with possibly 100s of posts on it from 2009-2014.Since it`s the same type of content on their current site, but not verbatim as far as I can tell, should I have them take it down so not to confuse users or Google?

  • Michael Martinez: Why would users be confused if the content is on another site?
  • JL Faverio: content is old (last article from 2014) and shows the firm to be small and/or unprofessional considering it`s on a Wordpress dot com domain.
  • Michael Martinez: JL Faverio I`ve never thought that of anyone using WordPress-dot-Com or Blogspot. I`ve even seen some pretty legitimate sites on Weebly.

Most people don`t think about Websites the way marketers do.

If the old site clearly points visitors to the new official site my instinct would be to leave it alone.

If it`s not clearly pointing to the new official site then I would fix that.
  • JL Faverio: Michael Martinez thank you :D
  • Sam Mah: Michael Martinez, I agreed with you. I found old contents are more valuable than new ones.
  • E Dieter Martin: The other question is, what kind of traffic does he get on the old pages?
  • JL Faverio: little to none.
  • E Dieter Martin: Then why bother. Re-use and refresh on the new site and silently kill the old site. Neat and tidy. Go Marie Kondo on the site.
  • Richard Hearne: And could this content be re-used / re-purposed on current site? Could it have any value if migrated?
  • JL Faverio: good point!
  • Suresh K: If your client has access to it, you can link that to the current website and boost the authority. (Backlink)
