Marty Eigner: I have noticed the bounce rate for some of my landing pages is very high (50%). Does anyone have any suggestions for reducing this apart from the obvious?
Jim Munro: Hi Marty :) I am not an expert but I don't think 50% is anything like a high bounce rate. I would love to achieve something near that across my sites. Internet latency is one cause which will contribute to bounce rate and a slower site is more likely to be affected by this. Have you tested your site using a tool like gtmetrix.com ?
Marty Eigner: I will give it a try but I use a cdn so my page load times are between 1 to 2 seconds. One of my best landing pages has a bounce rate of 75% which surprises me.
Chase Reiner: Are you sure your not getting visited by fake bots?
Marty Eigner: I am looking at organic traffic in Google Analytics.
Jim Munro: As Chase said, there has been a rise in referral spam recently. This is where a tool does not even visit your site, Randomly and programmatically they generate fake visits to your site to elicit visits from you to check them out. Each fake visit to your site is 100% bounce rate. I would check out filtering out referral spam before considering bounce rate. Marty Eigner: I have already added filters to remove all referral spam
Victor Castillejos: As +Jim Munro ;says 50% is quite good, it depends of your market.. bad will be >60%
Jann Grond: Can I see the landing page? 50% seems ok but there's always room to improve.
Dave Elliott: start analysing user path through your site. What content would make sense for them to see after the page with the (not very high to be honest) 50% bounce rate. Add internal links to these pages or add CTA's to push them down your sales funnel. ;I'm getting quite into the user journey type stuff at the minute.
Constantino Co: Can we see the landing page? Maybe we can help after analyzing it. What is the purpose/objective of your landing page?
