Ranking impact on Subdomain removal

If I remove a subdomain from the web will it influence the ranking of the primary domain?

  • Dave Elliott: Depends on what is linking to the sub and how you have linked internally between them etc... Obviously you can mitigate by diverting things but you will may well lose some ranking places.

    Personally i am always against a url or structure change on a site unless there is a very good reason for it.
  • Chase Reiner: Yes it depends on what you have on the sub domain. Are there links going to the other site? Is the sub domain functioning as a blog for the main site? We need more info.
  • Ranjith Kuttath (SEO Expert): If your subdomain have many relevant pages and is directly linking from main domain, it will affect your rank. Otherwise, not much
