YOUR ANSWERS

Selected answers from the Dumb SEO Questions Facebook & G+ community.

  • Mason Pelt: Get links.
  • Andrew Merritt: So I just need external links now?
  • Kevin Schlosser: backlinks = 40% of SEO juice. If you do that and get good content writers then build out your domain with an efficient structure. No keyword cannibalization, you will be golden.
  • Jamie Silk: There are a few things wrong for me that aren`t SEO related.

The menu is far too small at the top. The home page image is very nice, but a little too big. Get the shop button in the face of the user, it isn`t clear on what the user should do next.

Even once we find the shop button the next page isn`t much better. It should be clear on what the user does next without scrolling. Get the products in front of the user, that`s what you are trying to sell.
  • Andrew Merritt: Appreciate the feedback Jamie Silk. Great advice, I`ll definitely be implementing these improvements. 🙂
  • Jamie Silk: Most welcome, good luck with.

Oh fix your facebook/instagram links too.
  • Andrew Merritt: Jamie Silk Cheers!
  • Michael Martinez: Ignore SEO metrics like DA/PA/DR, etc. They mean nothing to the search engines.

And Alexa ranks are NOT search engine ranking signals.
  • Andrew Merritt: Thanks Michael, I thought google hated me :)
  • Schieler Mew: This is incorrect. Search engines look to data aggregators as cited sources of reference.

If you have an Alexa rank of 400k in the US and there is a citation referencing it on Alexa.com, it is definitely a weighted signal.
  • Michael Martinez: Schieler Mew "If you have an Alexa rank of 400k in the US and there is a citation referencing it on Alexa.com, it is definitely a weighted signal."

    No, it is NOT.
  • Schieler Mew: Michael Martinez - A citation or backlink from a data aggregator is not a weighted signal?

We will have to agree to disagree as Googles entire PageRank signal was created around this concept.
  • Michael Martinez: Schieler Mew Let`s agree that you`re going to stop misleading people in this discussion group with trick wording. Links are just links and they may or may not help with rankings.
  • Schieler Mew: Michael Martinez - Links are just links and when they come from citation resources that are viewed by Google as most likely seed sites, they carry weight when the relevancy is also available from that data aggregate.

Believing anything less seems to me, foolish.

But if you have documentation or studies that prove otherwise, please share them. I’d love to read about it and address my own beliefs and anecdotal evidence/opinion. I’ll be looking out for those 🙂
  • Jamie Silk: Next step citations and GMB page.
  • Jamie Silk: Don`t pay for them. Do them yourself. Make sure all details always remain the same. If your address is blah blah drive then don`t some times write it as dr.

    Consistency is key here.

  • Jamie Silk: Obviously use ones in your country.
  • Andrew Merritt: Thanks Jamie Silk, we only sell online. I have set google my business to just my country and city. Will I be able to get citations without providing my full address?
  • Jamie Silk: Andrew Merritt no, I think full address is required. Do you have a head office address.
  • Andrew Merritt: Jamie Silk Nope, it`s just my mother and I. She makes the treats at her house.
  • Jamie Silk: I`d take advice elsewhere and try and get a head office address. It will help with showing Google that you are a proper business.
  • Tim Capper: The way you are going to win this is content:

What are the best natural treats for dogs
What snacks are good for dogs
What are the healthiest dog treats
Is it cheaper to make your own dog treats
How do you make dog treats

    Can dogs eat ...

    PS: No on https://lynnesnaturaltreats.com.au/shop/
  • Dennis Dubner: Links and You’re not targeting the right keywords too unless you want someone who is looking for “kangaroo treats” instead of “dog treats” to find you. So I’d say first of all you need to do keyword research, mapping & targeting.
  • Andrew Merritt: The keywords definitely need optimizing, thanks for the advice Dennis Dubner!
  • Dennis Dubner: Andrew Merritt also unique product descriptions that include target keywords
  • Andrew Merritt: Dennis Dubner Thanks ill look into it.
  • Christine Hansen: I wonder what Google Search Consoles (GSC) says to your menu... Actually I wonder what GSC says overall to your site.. got any msgs from Google?
