My website disappears in UK

Not a function I use very often... but if I click on Google Search Tools and select `UK` - then one particular website of mine (wordpress) disappears from the SERPS - what would be causing that and what can I do about it? (also incognito)

  • Katarina Lujak: sorry to be cpt. obvious, maybe it`s just not on the page you are expecting it to be
  • Neil Cheesman: Found it - somewhat bizarrely the international targeting had been changed to US. Hard to find this on the new search console but found. So resolved.
  • Neil Cheesman: As a follow up question - under what circumstances would you use `Geotargeting`? ie why not just have worldwide?
  • Michael Stricker: Neil Cheesman if your products are regulated, cannot be delivered, your pages are not served in multiple languages, your store does not handle foreign currencies or suitable payment methods, these are all reasons to limit Search exposure by geo.
  • Neil Cheesman: Michael Stricker These are tickets for events - and can either be sent via email or collect at the event.
  • Neil Cheesman: Over the past year 82% from UK, 6% from US - 12% approx Rest of the World. Website visitors - I would need to look into actual sales etc)
  • Michael Stricker: Neil Cheesman internationally-sought events? Events tend to attract local audiences, unless it’s Cannes, or Super Bowl, or Burning Man. With geo influencing whether events appear in Search, how will the Engine know that a particular event or category on a geographically-undifferentiated site is the one worth presenting to a searcher in a remote region?
  • Neil Cheesman: Michael Stricker These are UK events - primarily London but also UK-wide... customers do come from around the world. I guess in terms of search terms - they would probably search for "artist + UK Tour" or "Artist + London 2020" etc
  • Michael Stricker: Neil Cheesman then there is no danger in restricting geo, as those who know they’ll be in UK will include geo terms and dates when searching for tickets. The added specificity will help, not hurt.
  • Neil Cheesman: Michael Stricker Many thanks for your feedback.
  • Michael Stricker: Neil Cheesman SEO. Legal fun for a living.
