Migrating back to previous URL

For technical reason a Website did a migration from thedomain.com/thecontentto subdomain.thedomain.com/thecontentthey did it with redirection 301Now that the technical constraint was removed they want to migrate back to thedomain.com/thecontentErasing the actual redirection 301 from domain to subdomain and add redirection from subdomain to domain.Does anyone did something like that before?Won´t it be a problema the back and forth of the content and redirections?Any suggestions or recomandations? Thanks a lot for you answerKind regards,

  • Brenda Malone: They will have to 301 the urls back to the original configuration. Ideally, if they foresaw an eventual return, they should have done a 302 (temporary) redirection. But, regardless, if that is what has to be done, take all steps to fully crawl and look at all of the existing redirections because you do NOT want chain redirections, so you may have to do more redirections than were done initially. The 301-redirections will cause a drop for a while, but it should recover. Be sure to submit the revised xml sitemaps to Search Console.
