  • Travis Bailey: Make stuff people care about. Keep paying the server bills.

  • Perry Bernard: Why? Check with Moz on what they say about it, but basically it’s about earning links which you do by being seen as awesome and creating awesome content. It’s not a Google thing.

  • Gediminas Ulbikas: If you want to do it naturally - make super awesome content which will go viral one way or another. Where? Any medium you can get your hands on. Promote it either paid (faster) or manually (cheap or no costs but slower).

  • Calvyn Lee: build more quality link, your DA will slowly increase

  • Loren Baker: Make sure you also monitor other domain metrics from Ahrefs and SEMrush amongst others, DA is one metric used by one smaller SEO tech company (Moz) which was bought & sold recently, so its not good to keep all of your eggs in one basket.

  • Ammon Johns: Domain ity has no effect on search engines, or your position on them. Sure, they kind of built the made-up metric to correspond roughly with how search engines rank sites with links to them, but it is very, very rough, and easy to cheat.

Search engines don`t even have a metrice vaguely akin to DA. They don`t need one. PageRank is far more effective, specific, and fine-detailed, and it works on a page by page basis for ultra-precision. Over the years, they even made it more precise with weighting the link by the are of the page it appears in, down-valuing links people are more likely to ignore in the `boilerplate` areas of a page, and paying more attention to links that are in context of the main body of the main content.

I see one, and only one, group of people ever talking about DA as a real thing, and that is people trying to sell bad links with high DA as if that made them less bad. As such, most of the time, even the mention of DA tells me I`m either talking with a spammer, a scammer, or someone very, very new to SEO.

So, that is it`s one use. It helps one spot people NOT to take advice from.
