Learn it myself or should I take an SEO crash course?

I have some basic understanding of SEO but looking to advance myself in that area as I`ve got no resources to hire a professional yet. Mainly so I could write better blog posts, website pages, product descriptions, and so on, on my own e-commerce website.I was searching for a crash course on SEO and came across this one. Is this a good one to get? I`m all ears if you have better suggestions.

Michael Martinez: Instead of paying for some random SEO course, I think you would be better off reading the search engine guidelines published by Bing and Google and then watching the videos that Google uploaded to YouTube, starting with Matt Cutts` informative videos from years back.
