It does not show up for searches made in the UK

Hi, I have a website that targets individual locations in the UK. It is a courier company website. Although the locations are based in the Uk, it does not show up for searches made in the UK but shows up for searches outside the UK. For example, if I search for "courier company in Milton Keynes" with a UK ip, it does not show up. But if I search the same keyword with an IP address of any other country it shows up fine. Looking for some help in this area thanks.

  • Richard Hearne: Group expertYou may be seeing slight delays if the content/rank is new. It`s unlikely that the relevance of results differs inside/outside the UK for a search query as specific as milton keynes. The other thing you can force is the geolocation via:

    https://www.google.co.uk/search...

That should get you local UK results, apart from geotargeted ads which exclude your current location. You can also fine tune that to force results local to Milton Meynes, but you`d need to figure out a more complex URL.

  • Anjana Wickramaratne: Richard Hearne Hi, I tried using the link you provided but still no results to be found. The issue is that the results used to show up but suddenly disappeared.

  • Mike Calder: How are you using a UK IP? Is it through a VPN? Is your VPN good enough? Free version vs paid versions?

  • Anjana Wickramaratne: Hi, I use a premium VPN. Also, I doon;t get any hits in my search console as well but gets hits from other locations.

  • Mike Calder: Anjana Wickramaratne Anjana Wickramaratne I have used a premium VPN for many years to access my UK streaming accounts. In the past it has been able to access BBC iPlayer and Amazon Prime without any problems. Nowadays the Amazon Prime app is not playing but coming up with a warning message about being connected to a VPN.

    But BBC can play easily.

So something is going on to affect the connection. Amazon have invested in identifying VPN servers...and perhaps Google has as well, so that search results are not true to the geographical location you think you are connected to.

I am currently in the UK, so if you let me know what company you are wanting to analyse in Milton Keynes, I could give you the results based on a real UK IP address, as the prospective customers would be using.

  • Richard Hearne: Group expertIs the domain ccTLD (.co.uk etc.) or gTLD (.com etc)? This could be an issue with Google not recognising the site as "local", but it seems odd to me if that`s the case.

  • Anjana Wickramaratne: Richard Hearne the domain is a .com. while I did my initial reseach I saw a lot of .com sites ranking in the search reaults which is confusing me as well.

  • Richard Hearne: Group expertWhere is the site hosted? I don`t think this is a factor anymore, but I wonder if the previous website on the domain has been associated with a different country?

What you can also do is go right down through the SERP and see does the site rank in top 100?

What you`re describing is not the norm, but without actually seeing it it`s very hard to say what could be causing this. Do try to rule out as many factors as possible - ask someone on a real UK IP if they see the same. Try some other longer terms to see if the site can rank for anything in UK. Change the GSC geotargeting setting to UK if you haven`t done so already.

  • Richard Hearne: Group expertFrom a UK IP address visit google.co.uk, use the Tools > Country: United Kingdom filter, and then search for your website name. If it is not coming up then it`s most likely that Google has associated the domain with a different country. You can updat…
