Is there any value in including a no-follow link?

Hi Everyone! Wondering if there`s any value in including a no-follow link to a companies high profile clients in the "our clients include section" on home/about pages?Or would it be best to just use alt text, file name etc to show Google which companies they`re working with?Is this something Google even cares about?Any advice or opinions is much appreciated

  • Michael Martinez: Google does not care about such relationships, unless people search for them.

If you`re going to link, at least give the clients a follow link. You won`t preserve anything by using "nofollow" attributes.

  • Josh Sheldon: Michael Martinez Easy answer, thank you!

  • Richard Hearne: Yes to the above, and the question - why would you nofollow these links?

  • Josh Sheldon: Richard Hearne TBH I`m not sure, misconceptions about link juice?

  • Richard Hearne: Well let`s think this through - if you nofollow the links to your clients, how difficult do you think it might be to get your clients to send follow links back to you?

  • Josh Sheldon: Richard Hearne That`s a great point and something I wasn`t really thinking about but should have been!

  • Tim Brownson: Irrespective of SEO linking has value in terms of making the social proof more credible, especially, and obviously, this isn`t always possible, it links to something on another site that mentions your client.

  • Josh Sheldon: Tim Brownson proof, trust and credibility were what I was initially aiming for with the potential client links. An on-site mention is going to be pretty hard but I can definitely see how that would be valuable

  • Ammon Johns: Where there is significant (completely unfounded in my professional opinion) concern from a client/site owner about linking out without the `nofollow` markup, the way I`d generally do what you`re talking about is to create a specific `case study` page about exactly what was done with/for the client, and have *that* page link out.

By introducing the intermediary page you create strong, compelling content, and the link that would have gone directly to the client now goes to a page that still links to the client, but also contains all the normal navigational links, links to pages about specific services or products mentioned in the case study, etc.

Since PageRank is split between all links on the page fairly equally (page segmentation weighting is reckoned to be in single digit percentile amounts) I promise you that a direct link would not have in any way lessened the site, but the additional page with the case study certainly adds to the site.

  • Josh Sheldon: Ammon Johns that`s such a great idea! Thanks so much for the insight, really appreciated!

Do you think the link from the case study is valuable purely in case a user wants to check out the companies we`ve been working with ie it won`t hurt why not

    or

Do you think Google see`s some value or EAT signals from linking to high profile companies in an adjacent niche?
