Internal Linking Anchor Text Questio

Is it acceptable to have something like:`Related Article: 5 Best Cameras for Travel`As an anchor text for internal linking as opposed to having a natural sentence like:"When I was traveling last year I picked up one of the best cameras for traveling and it served me well bla bla."The reasons I ask is (and please note):I`ve heard from various sources the latter is the `proper` way to do it.I need to do this across 100 pages for a website in another language, so the 1st method is really manageable for me, IF it`s acceptable.Any real SEO difference in either method or is there a wrong and right way to do this. Thanks everyone!

  • Michael Martinez: There is no right or wrong way to do it. It is your site. Do it any way you please.
  • The-Nomad Sam: Thanks for the reply. But what do you make of this? https://youtu.be/31Pr8SZPvnE
  • The-Nomad Sam: He`s a respected SEO and he has some specific strategies for anchor text use. But I`m not sure what others think of it and if they implement it too. To save you time: He says surrounding the anchor in text is better in googles eyes, positioning near the top shows more `weight` to google etc
  • Richard Hearne: If I was given the choice I`d always opt for the latter - IMO better for both SEO and UX. Not saying the former is bad/wrong, but I know what I`d take given the choice.
  • Michael Martinez: The-Nomad Sam I don`t make anything of it.

Google MAY use a link or not. The link MAY be internal or external.

You can design any link-based strategy you want. We know Google uses links. We just don`t know WHICH links Google is using.

But the question asked is "is it acceptable to have something like ..."

And, yes, it IS acceptable. Google doesn`t own the Web. Google can`t dictate to us what we do on our own sites.

Google has stated many, many, MANY times that they crawl our sites and learn from them. They don`t have any guidelines governing the use of internal links - that is, they don`t consider your own internal links to be spammy.

What would most likely affect a site`s optimization negatively via internal links is a LACK of them.
  • Richard Hearne: Yeah, I totally agree. But given the choice I`ve made my preference clear :)
  • The-Nomad Sam: Michael Martinez that’s a MUCH better and clear answer, that’s answered my query very well, thank you.
  • Mark Seah: Technical seo is only 1 portion. content, images, and all other details are impt too.

  • The-Nomad Sam: Mark Seah this is very helpful, thanks a lot Mark.
  • Mark Seah: no prob. i feel tht ppl mainly focus on buying, gaining, manipulating backlinks but hardly any seo ppl say anything abt importance of content n other tasks.
