Best practice to delete a URL

When deleting urls (Wordpress) and also adding for removal in GSC is it best to also 410 the url or not?

It doesn`t matter. If you need it removed urgently (eg, accidentally made something public), then just use the URL removal tool additionally to either 404 or 410.
Richard Hearne: you want them out fast 410 the URLs on response end. Then build and submit an XML sitemap with the 410 URLs with lastmod date now. That will see them gone pretty fast.
