I have a competitor who is using satellite websites

We have a competitor who is using satellite websites (different domain address) to link back to their website. I was able to confirm this using spyonweb. The websites have the same content and they are definitely getting benefits because their website ranks higher on SERPS.

There is no way to know if the duplicate sites are helping or not. Many sites rank in spite of their spammy practices, not because of them.

The search engines ignore many links.

  • Ammon Johns: For links from other sites to have ANY benefit at all, there have to be links to *those* sites. That`s the same whether it is satellite sites of your own, PBNs, or random links from others. So, if those sites are definitely helping, look for where THEY are getting the link juice.

It sometimes can be that aggressive SEO link-building creates disposable proxy sites which would look a lot like those satellites. The reason being that they can pursue risky links, and if the risk turns bad, they just kill the satellite site, keeping the main site pristine.
