Dumb SEO Questions

Creating physical silos

Hello! My WordPress site currently has a flat architecture, and we`re considering changing to hierarchical to create physical silos that better organize the site for users and Googlebot. This would change the URLs of the majority of pages, i.e. www.website.com/facebook-ads might look something like www.website.com/digital-marketing/facebook-ads afterwards, with other pages also falling under the /digital-marketing/ category. Are there any SEO concerns I should have in making these types of changes? Or do I not need to worry as long as I correctly 301 redirect and upload an updated sitemap?

  • Michael Martinez: Group expert"Or do I not need to worry as long as I correctly 301 redirect and upload an updated sitemap?"You should be good. You may see double URLs in search results for a while. Don`t worry. The search engines will get it sorted out.
  • Mark Ketzler: I personally wouldn`t. As long as your internal linking is set up well there would be little benefit. It is also easier to mix pages and posts in soft silos. For a new site a hard silo may make sense as original design but massive permalink changes always have risk.
