Because all external links on Wikipedia have nofollow I was surprised with:

However DuckDuckGo does have its own crawler and ignores nofollow from Wikipedia:

" For our own stuff where we deep crawl crowd-sourced sites like Wikpedia, we essentially ignore the nofollow moniker and do our own filters as to which links to use or not. "
