Multiple H1 tags containing the same keyword

Hi Guys, if a page has multiple h1 tags containing the same keyword or close variation would you recommend removing one of the h1 tags and shifting it to a h2 tag? Also would you classify this as a high, medium or low technical issue?

  • Michael Martinez: It depends. I would be inclined to classify it as a low technical issue if you`re only talking about a small number of extra headings.
  • Rienzi Mosqueda: For starters I think you should stick to 1 H1.
  • Dave Elliott: Not been an issue since html5 in terms of development and Jon Mueller recently re-confirmed that it`s fine for Google as well https://searchengineland.com/multiple-h1s-wont-get-in-the...
  • Richard Hearne: Low. In all but very limited edge-cases.
  • Stockbridge Truslow: Technically, most pages shouldn`t have multiple h1 tags - though there are exceptions. Realistically, it doesn`t really matter.

Sharing keywords between the headings doesn`t really matter (or even same keywords in different pages) - what matters is the "meaning" or "intent"

    Commercial Roofing Services
    Residential Roofing Services

Both of those have the same keywords of "roofing services" but have different meanings and purpose.
  • Ryan Jones: maybe. do they make sense in the context of the page? Use headings for page layout where they fit with the elements on the page, not for SEO.
