  • Suraj Gadage: +Padmanabh Daga ;When it comes to keyword research, we usually follow the mentioned process:

    1. Creating a master list of all keywords
    - You must be knowing the seed keyword/topic around which you want to build the content. In this process we collect all the data related to your see keywords from all possible sources such as Google keyword planner, adwords , webmaster tools (if you have access for both), Ubbersuggest and competitor websites. After collecting the data we remove the duplicates to create a unique keywords list.

    2. Choose keywords based on search volume, difficulty, relevance, past performance and competition
    - We choose and theme the keywords that are relevant, have good search volume and have a difficulty score that can be beaten by our SEO (On Page and Off Page) efforts. Here to identify the difficulty score of a keyword we use Moz tool (Paid tool). Here is how the tool works on a high level.

When you plug in a keyword within the tool, it calculates page authority, domain authority, link authority, on-page, and social signal metrics that contribute to ranking position of the top 10 ranking results. Based on these factors Moz's own built-in intelligence calculates the difficulty score (0-100%). According to Moz
    any keyword with difficulty score
    10-30% - Non-Competitive
    30-50% - Moderately Competitive
    50-70% - Highly Competitive
    70-100% - Extremely Competitive

So if you would see, the assessment of keyword difficulty score is broad based and may not always be very specific to your website.

    3. Mapping keywords based on priority
    - We map the selected keywords to the respective webpages in an order of priority- Primary (goes in title), Secondary (goes in H1 tag and/or content), and Tertiary (content).

    4. Design and optimize website around targeted keywords
    - Based on the keyword theme and mapping we design and optimize webpages for better SEO visibility.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
  • Kyle Hawk: Suraj pretty much covered it. As far as tools Market Samurai is nice and you can do some good research for free, even better once you pay.
