Cross domain tracking with Google Tag Manager

When setting up cross domain tracking with Google Tag Manager, does it matter if the auto-link and allowLinker settings are adjusted in the Google Analytics pageview tag or the Google Analytics custom variable?

Michael Martinez: I don`t do this so I`m not making any promises. But when testing something out of the ordinary I do look for indications in the reporting tools that data which SHOULD be collected IS being collected.

We`ve got a fair number of older sites that use old Google Analytics tracking code. They`re collecting data just fine.

So unless the Google Tag Manager team announces a change in compliance rules I think your client will be okay.
