Changing the name of my business for optimization purposes

re: changing the name of my business on GMB for optimization purposes.I run a digital agency. It`s name is Sachi Studio. However, I want to make it "Sachi Studio Digital Marketing" for seo purposes. Relative to the local competition, I have alot of reviews and they have none and I feel this may help.Do you think Google would flag this or is it more of a grey area?I imagine there is no clear black and white answer to this but thought I ask anyway to see what others think. Especially from other digital marketers and SEOers.

YOUR ANSWERS

Selected answers from the Dumb SEO Questions Facebook & G+ community.

  • Don Vermeer: Go ahead

  • Perry Bernard: Unlikely to make any difference if you selected the right categories in the GMB setup. Location trumps keyword and if intent matches category, it triggers. Besides, people search for digital marketing are mostly other digital marketers hoping to see their vanity impressions.

  • Jk Dove: I don`t think Google will give two squishy farts. As long as you cover your redirects, rel-canons, and NAP (the primaries), you`ll be fine.

    Are changing your actual DBA?

  • Dean Hua: Jk Dove no

  • Jk Dove: Dean Hua Hmmm, something I just realized... are you just changing the name as far as site copy goes or are you changing the actual URL?

  • Dean Hua: Well, you can`t change the url on GMB. I`m just changing company name on the GMB. Nothing else changes.

  • Jk Dove: Dean Hua Ok, that`s what I was wondering, whether or not this was exclusive to GMB. In that case, my initial answer doesn`t wholly fit your situation. I think overall you should be fine as long as you remain consistent across the board.

  • Brock Misner: Yes change the name you`re going to notice a very large increase in rankings around the keyword digital marketing. It`s like a cheat code! LOL but you can trigger a r e verification. In order to avoid this the safest way is 2 use a local guide level level seven or above to suggest an edit through Google Maps. Then when you login to your GMB you`ll see the user suggested blah blah blah with your old name crossed out and your new name highlighted in yellow. Scroll down and accept new changes and you will be your new business name. Congratulations

  • Dean Hua: Brock Misner interesting hack! How does one seek out a level 7 guide?

  • Michael Mason: I am level 8.

  • Brock Misner: Dean Hua there you go... i have a youtube channel all about seo and google ppc is your interested in other cool tips and tutorials..

  • Dean Hua: Brock Misner Michael Mason ha thanks guys. Will look up your channel. Also a YouTuber but focused on paid media

  • Brock Misner: Dean Hua I`m in the paid media too. PPC Brotherhood!!!

  • Tim Capper: It may give you a bump - BUT to protect yourself from any manual review + other users suggest edits - I would recommend updating the Logo on site + the copyright footer name.

  • Brock Misner: Tim Capper 100% for sure. Good callout!

  • Michael Mason: I do a lot of work with local businesses, hence the higher level on GMB.

Happy to help where I can Dean.
