Here is my incredibly dumb and also a bit controversial SEO questio

Ok, here is my incredibly dumb seo question. Also a bit controversial. Bear with me, I am also a newbie. Why does everyone say that Wix SEO is crap?
As far as I can tell, you can do the same type of on-page/off-page optimization as any WordPress site. You can add structured data.
You can build backlinks. Speed is good. It`s responsive.
So why is it considered so inferior? Please can an impartial expert weigh in here?

  • Jeremy L. Knauff: https://www.searchenginejournal.com/website.../349178/
  • Michael Martinez: I could optimize a PDF file for search but building a Website with PDF files would frustrate me immensely.

If whatever system or tools you use force you to resort to workarounds to accomplish things that are easily implemented with other systems or tools, then your job is harder than it should be. At least, harder than you want it to be.

It`s about the cost-benefit ratio, and Wix is not the only platform that makes things difficult for SEO.

Even WordPress has its flaws (many of them) but it`s easier to work around those flaws.
  • William Jones: And how long have you been doing SEO if I may ask?
  • Hila Carlin: William Jones why?
  • Michael Martinez: I don`t think how long one has been doing SEO is pertinent to the question being asked.
  • Adam John Humphreys: I know a lot of older really shitty SEOs that haven’t updated their knowledge in a while lol
  • William Jones: I would like to see a website built in WIX in a competive market in a city like New York or Atlanta. I have said this repeatedly to people and yet crickets when it comes to results. However I can shows you tons of static sites, PHP sites, HTML sites or WP sites that rank all day long.
  • Michael Martinez: William Jones I`m not going to the mat for Wix but I see at least 1 Wix site in this query:

atlanta Szechuan & Korean Style Chinese
  • William Jones: Michael Martinez not a competive niche
  • Michael Martinez: William Jones Try explaining that to Atlanta`s restaurant owners. I`m sure they would disagree with you.
  • William Jones: Michael Martinez now something like Chinese food Atlanta that`s competitive but most people ordering Chinese food are not going to search the term....

Atlanta Szechuan & Korean Style Chinese...

Bit of a long tail keyword and easy to rank for.
  • Michael Martinez: William Jones I don`t live IN Atlanta so I can`t duplicate a local query. But "competitive query" means something different to everyone.

It`s a legitimate query and at least 1 Wix site ranks for it. And I`ve seen other Wix sites rank in other queries.

As I said, I`m not going to fight for Wix but there ARE competitive queries where Wix sites rank well..

You see so few of them because Wix doesn`t dominate Website design the way WordPress does. The SERPs are naturally biased toward WordPress, not because it magically ranks better than Wix but because more people are using it.
  • William Jones: Michael Martinez Competive keyword means one thing and one thing only, highly searched and thefore lots of competition.

Any proof that the SERPs or GOOGLE Algorithm is biased towards WP because more people use it?

One thing I will agree with is your right there is nothing magical about WP, just like there is nothing magical about driving a Lamborghini instead of a Beatup Station Wagon.

Regarding local search using Google keyword tool or analytics will show you how competive a keyword is not or is, so no need to even live in Atlanta to see that info.
  • Michael Martinez: William Jones "Competive keyword means one thing and one thing only, highly searched and thefore lots of competition."

This industry has no standards and that means everyone has their own definition.

To the small business owner who relies on a handful of local queries, the above definition for competitiveness is irrelevant.

Every market is different, and in the current business environment - where about half of all small American restaurants have closed permanently - everyone is desperately competing for whatever traffic they can get.

So even if there -were- some standardized, universally applicable definition for "competitive query" prior to the pandemic, all that ended months ago.
  • Sam Mah: Every web builder has flaws.

It uses too many plugins to run the platforms, and this can have a substantial impact on page loading speed. Even you add more SEO plugins, and you still make the site slower. You might not notice the rate, but Google knows it, so are your target users.

If you use a website builder, you should get a better hosting plan and remove some plugins. This can enable improving page speed.
  • Kristen Hansen Lowrey: It’s historically been terrible but it’s gotten better. You can rank well on a wix site if you put in the work consistently - fresh optimised content frequently, internal linking, back links etc. the basics.
