Dislike button coming to Facebook.

"Probably hundreds of people have asked about this, and today is a special day because today is the day that I actually get to say we are working on it, and are very close to shipping a test of it."

However he went on to say he did not want it to be a mechanism with which people could "down vote" others` posts.

Instead, it will be for times when clicking "like" on "sad" posts felt insensitive.

  • Masatake Wasa (wasaweb): It's extremely gimmicky, but I probably prefer emoticon / emoji reactions. So if the news is sad, then you can choose a sad face, if it's funny, then a laughing face, etc. Like / dislike is binary which will always be translated in people's minds as up / down votes with positive / negative connotations. There will be some social media rage where everyone will go and dislike something on Facebook after someone posted something stupid, and there will inevitably be cases of trolling / harassment / cyber-bullying. If Facebook can pull it off, then that's great, but I remain sceptical. It probably says much more about my views on human nature.
  • Edwin Jonk: I want a "meh" button.
