  • man patel: i have a website ; xyz.com and that site rank well in SEO, client has to move new site with different URL abc.com with some changes.

    My Question is ; New site position in google and other search engine will remain same when i do 301 permanent redirect through google webmaster tool.
  • Jon Dunn: The 301 will pass (some) link equity. The 301 doesn't guarantee preserved rankings as on page optimisation will also come in to play.
  • man patel: Thanks Jon Dunn..
  • Paul Naybour: +man patel Matt Cutts covered this in his video at ;When I change domains, how long should I leave the redirects in place?. Seems it can be doen quite easily ;
  • Unique Websites: From memory, I can remember reading that a 301 will pass 85-90% of link juice.

    However, I can also remember reading that G doesn't want new sites to buy up old sites and get the benefit of their backlinks.

    If you have the same address, phone number etc on the site - and if you have the site's social media pages linking to the new site, then this starts to signal that it is a legit 301. I would also 301 individual pages to individual pages rather than a global redirect.

    Then, you can start to get the old backlinks changed as and when you can/as needed.

    (I'm not a SEO expert, but we have just followed the above process due to an essential domain change and - so far - the site seems to be doing OK (although it is a very niche market so there's not massive competition).
  • Nagesh shukla: it would affect the website's ranking, but using 301 redirect you can save the damages by 90 to 95 %
  • man patel: Thanks all .. i like all suggestions...
