What`s the point of issuing an SSL certificate that covers www and non www?

What`s the point of issuing an SSL certificate that covers www and non www if a 301 redirect is in place? You`d think that the 301 destination would be enough, but both SEMRush and GSC complain.

  • David Kutcher: You want your redirect between two sites to both be covered by SSL or I believe some browsers throw an error.
  • Jason Duke: As David just said, there is still a request to the 1st hostname and that needs to be SSL secured as well.
