What`s the best way to write an updated post and then link to the old post for best SEO "juice"?

Team - hope all of you are having a great day so far!

Quick question please give me your input on why/why not/how etc:
Client has a blog with content. Client now want to remove that content because they want to "rewrite"/update these posts. From what i`ve been told, you shouldn`t remove old content.

Here`s the question >>> what`s the best way to write an updated post and then link to the old post for  best SEO "juice"?  #SEOjuice   #linkingTOanotherBlogPost

Hope i make sense.

Thanks,
Sandra?

  • Jeremy Estes: Rewrite the content on the same page if it's the same subject, and will outperform the old.
  • Sandra Sinclair: hi +Jeremy Estes ;, thanks for your comment. Isnt there another way? Because we dont want to lose the "juice" the old entry already has produced...
  • Wakefly, Inc.: Hi +Sandra Sinclair ;, I think this video from Rand Fishkin (Moz) will help you with your question

    How to Move Rankings Up On Older, Existing Content - SEOmoz Whiteboard Friday
  • Jeremy Estes: Think about it like this... the content doesn't have juice, it's the url.

    If the content is outdated, it needs to be refreshed so it will get new links.

    If you make a whole new page, you're going to require another click for people who came to the outdated page find the better content.
  • Greg Baka: +Jeremy Estes ; is right. Explain to your client that it's the same as updating regular webpages. You don't throw away the webpage that has good history and juice, you just update the text and pictures occasionally.
  • Sandra Sinclair: +Greg Baka thanks for your input. Is there any article or something that can confirm what you guys are saying? (In case the client ask for reference)
  • Jeremy Estes: Ya, just have your client Google "common sense"...lol
  • Sandra Sinclair: hahaha @ ; ;+Jeremy Estes ;. There is a reason an SEO person is in business... because everything is NOT common sense to everyone. Why would a client hire an SEO professional if everything was "common sense" ?! THAT my friend is common sense ;)

    Thank you again for your first comment. I really appreciated it. Although i found supporting info for what you and +Greg Baka ;suggested, the client decided to just create a new page and the link the new content [on the new page] to the old content. #smh  ;
