Dumb SEO Questions

(Entry was posted by Robbie King on this post in the Dumb SEO Questions community on Facebook, 02/17/2022).

What kind of content should I write?

Should I write content keeping link building opportunites and what other sites might want front of mind?Or, should I just focus on writing content that ticks the keyword boxes and is better than whats already on page 1? And then worry about which site would want to link to my content later? I`m guessing that in most instances good content will tick both boxes but wanted to ask just in case i need to consider link building opportunities from the start.

  • Robbie King: Ah thanks.

Well first and foremost I’m writing for prospects. The goal of my content is to answer any questions a prospect using google might have about my product. Aim is to guide and educate. A lot of these will be low comp keywords.

Longer term, Im now sensing the need for two types of content. 1 to please searching prospects, the other for publications to link to.

  • Michael Martinez: Robbie King Well, I`m just saying it`s easier to do it that way. Other people may disagree with me.

And when it comes to creating content, experimentation is a good way to learn and practice makes perfect.

So maybe I came down a little too hard on the idea.

  • Sharon Kinney: I would agree with what he said^ but I did recently have a random company reach out about a very small niche site that was all original blog posts written specifically to hit keywords and provide rich content. Nothing was on the site about backlinking but they offered to pay to post content out of the blue, so it does happen. Again, very niche site. Also a couple posts ranked pretty well for some of those keywords, so I am guessing that is how it was found by the party wanting to link. Hope that helps?

  • Michael Martinez: Sharon Kinney That`s not the same thing. Being targeted for guest posting payments isn`t natural - it`s just a consequence of being found by spammers.
