What is the best way to do a 301 redirect on a WordPress site, from Old Url to New Url? Example: www.test.com/new-seo to www.test.com/seo. Should I use a plugin or do it in the .htaccess File or use Apache’s mod rewrite?

  • Paul Thompson: The easiest way if you just have a few is to write the redirect directly into the htaccess file. Redirect 301 /new-seo https://www.test.com/seo
  • Michael Martinez: A plugin adds processing time to every URL request. I only resort to plugins on sites where I implement a LOT of 301 redirects, unless I can do them efficiently via .htaccess.
