Using Keywords in ALT Tags

QUESTION ABOUT USING KEYWORDS IN ALT TAGS

I use SEO by Yeost on my WordPress site and when I looked at the  SEO result for some of the pages it said:
`images on this page do not have alt tags containing your focus keyword.`
I was told not to do this by a `Word Press expert some time ago and I remain under the impression that it is wrong to do this. - does anyone know what this means exactly?
If I was to use a description of the image and a keyword in the alt tag of an image of a witch for this site below it would look like this:
witch-childrens-stories  - is this correct?

  • Edwin Jonk: Using the alt attribute for images is considered best practise. However, the alt attribute should be a description of the image and not a list of keywords.

But I am a little confused about the HTML. Namely, there is a div with display none and more.

  • grace jolliffe: Thanks for responding. So no keywords at all in the alt tag then? Why does Yeost tell me to include them?
  • grace jolliffe: +Edwin Jonk
;I'll be honest I don't understand this. What is a div with a display?
  • grace jolliffe: Sorry I meant to say I don't do HTMl I just use the wordpress and added a theme. Is there a problem in the wordpress or in the theme?

Thanks again I will take a look and I will be sure to share afterwards.
  • marketing Beginner: IMHO, you should fill attribute of the image plus your keyword.. but do not do keyword stuffing...
  • Tony “Tiggerito” McCreath: An honest description of an image would likely include keywords in a natural way.

In my opinion Yoast pushes keyword stuffing too much.

It's an attribute, not a tag. Do not trust any "expert" who gets that wrong. It implies they don't properly understand html.
  • grace jolliffe: Thanks I appreciate your comments. My problem is I have a kids stories site so I have pages like this:
    http://ballyyahoo.com/childrens-stories/
    keyword - childrens-stories
However, the images are donkeys, witches etc
  • Tony “Tiggerito” McCreath: The image description should reflect what's in the image. You could add context:

A mad donkey from the children's story "The Witch of Ballyyahoo"
  • grace jolliffe: +Tony McCreath
;Thank you that is really helpful.
