Server response times: Lots of peaks in the .500ms to above 1 sec in the last few months. Normal fluctuations? Not normal?

  • Patty Mantaloons: I got the notification at 1.2s - I suppose Google likes to give you a heads up before things get out of control...
  • Alan Bleiweiss: Yes, normal, generally speaking, however when it approaches 2 seconds, that`s the threshold for Google. Official policy: if pages take longer than 2 seconds to download (just the code), Gbot is more likely to abandon the crawl. Could cause lost opportunity, failure for Google to find new or refreshed content. And a slow server response time is a red flag first warning of other speed problems.
