Dumb SEO Questions

(Entry was posted by Heidi Strom Moo on this post in the Dumb SEO Questions community on Facebook, 08/23/2013).

Is there any other way to assess whether a disavowal request has been responded?

Conventional wisdom (correct or not) in the past was that filing for reconsideration then spurred Google to act on a previously filed disavowal. Now that the manual actions tool has been implemented in Webmaster Tools, preventing reconsideration for anyone without a manual penalty, is there any other way to assess whether a disavowal request has been responded to or implemented by Google?  Thanks.

  • Tim Capper: As far as I am aware, nothing has changed.

They say that the disavow tool will be crawled as part of the normal process.

However you still have to wait till the algorithm to re crawl to take affect.

So your disavow tool may have been crwled and implemented, but you will need to wait till the algorithm that triggered the penalty to re visit the site.

In the case of Penguin, only Google knows. The last time it was run was in May 2013, i had expected another by now, but not yet.
  • Heidi Strom Moon: Yes, that's the frustrating part; there's no clear signal when/whether it's taken place.
  • Tim Capper: We will be told when penguin is rolled out again, Matt Cutts has tweeted every time it has been released.
