Indexing images.

Hi Guys,

Three weeks ago I started to add images to my new website.  Now there are over 200 images submitted to GWT through a sitemap but 0 images are indexed. All submitted pages are indexed.

I`m using Yoast WordPress SEO sitemap. Setup is the same as with my other websites where images are indexed normally.

What could be the reason for Google to crawl the website regularly but not to index images? ?

  • Victor Castillejos: Usually is because your images have names like this dsc001.jpg and there is no alt text and title.

    The best way to get images indexed they need to be keyword.jpg alt text keyword
  • Nebojsa Djukic: +Victor Castillejos ;Thank you for the reply. That is not the case. Each image name and  ;alt tags are optimized and unique. ;

    Not sure if 3 weeks is enough time for Google to start indexing images?
  • Victor Castillejos: It should be about time
  • Dylan Kent: You have to be patient with google. The web crawler may visit your site often but that doesn't necessarily mean webmaster tools will show the latest information. ;
  • bharat thakare: Create an Image XML Sitemap and submit it for Google to discover the images fast.
  • Nebojsa Djukic: Yes, I've created an Image XML Sitemap last night. Two images indexed so far. ;

    #Yoast SEO plugin is really great but I don't like it when it comes to sitemaps. Their sitemap is not compatible with #Woothemes. When I use them together there are always some Sitemap errors in GWT.

    If you know any Sitemap plugin that allows me to choose what taxonomies will be indexed, please let me know. At the moment I use Yoast Sitemap just because I can choose my categories, tags and archives to be no indexed. ;
  • Nebojsa Djukic: Ol' good ;Google XML Sitemaps by Arne Brachhold has everything I need. Will use it instead Yoast's sitemap in the future.

  • Ken O'Donnell: It has nothing to do with your site map or yost. Although I'm not a yost fan (I like all in one) myself. When you add images, don't forget the Alt text and description options and yes, give it some time. It's like the mail man. If you put your mail out just before the mail man comes buy, it gets picked up right away (indexed). If you put the mail out (post) just after he/she came by, you'll have to wait for the next time they come by.
  • Ligatures.Net: If you have set-up proper alt and descriptive image file names, then indexing speed will depend on the pages popularity, backlinks and how valuable Google thinks your pages are to users. ;
