In terms of keyword research and selection, how does geography fit in for a local/non e-commerce business?

In terms of keyword research and selection, how does geography fit in for a local/non e-commerce business? Is there a certain percentage of keywords that should incorporate the city/state name or is it more dependent on a case by case basis??

  • bharat thakare: There is no recommended keyword density for local keywords for a local business website. Local websites should have location specific pages if it makes sense for the users. I would however recommend creating local listings on Google and Bing. This is the strongest indicator to Google that the business is location specific. It will automatically show the website in the local results.
  • Wakefly, Inc.: +Abbi Achterberg ;I would first check my getlisted.org listings for local search optimization. That is a great way to centralize a website's location for all search engines and even places like Yelp
  • Harry Dance: +Wakefly, Inc. and +bharat thakare are exactly right, getlisted.org will really help and creating local places pages are important too. However just one more tip, add the location into the page title and once in a heading on the page. As well maybe look into geo tags
