Dumb SEO Questions

(Entry was posted by Michael Allen Smith on this post in the Dumb SEO Questions community on Facebook, 05/20/2014).

I`d like to know if it would be a risk to drop the "www." from the URL

I have a 15 year old website (PR 4) that will release a new version very soon. The URLs will change, but I have a redirect tool so no links will break.

I`d like to know if it would be a risk to drop the "www." from the URL. I`d prefer to drop it, but I want to do what is best for the site. Thanks. ?

  • Federico Sasso: Not a problem as long as your redirect 301s are correctly set.
    Besides, you are going to change URLs anyway, and dropping the www. part is just a normal URL change.

  • happysus sait: I check with ;Screaming Frog SEO first, then I make decision to drop www or non-www.  ;
  • Michael Allen Smith: I tested the PageRank of my site with and without the PR. Both were 4, so I launched the new version without the "www.". ;

    Thanks all for the feedback.  ;

    The cuetimes listed on this page are functional while the live broadcast continues and also once Youtube has finished processing the public broadcast. Processing time varies between 6-24 hours. During this period the clip is viewable in full but the cuetimes cannot be relied on. ;
