Dumb SEO Questions

(Entry was posted by Jonathan Cross on this post in the Dumb SEO Questions community on Facebook, 05/26/2014).

I want to change domain, what is the better way for me to move that content over?

I have some good blog content that is hosted on a domain that I want to move over to another blog on a different, new, domain.  The old domain has many poor quality links coming into it.  If I move some content from the old domain to the new domain, and give it a 301 redirect, will Google look at the bad links coming in as links to the new domain? That is assuming that there are some bad links coming into those pages that I want to move.

Or, is their a better way for me to move that content over?

Thanks for any help you can give me.?

  • Tim Capper: In short, if you 301 the old domain to new domain, those bad links will follow you.

Now you talk about the domain having bad links, but do the individual articles have bad links?

Because you could 301 each article to each new article, and that is your content transferred, without the bad links.

You could then just create a nice Landing Page on old domain, saying "We have moved" you can find us at www.mynewdomain
