I just wanted to know if a long-tail keyword has a different order

Hey guys!Sorry if it`s a dumb questionI just wanted to know if a long-tail keyword has a different order for examplePersonalised necklace in goldGold personalised necklace Personalised hold necklaceAre these all the same as it seems so on the search volume they have the same exact figure. If so when optimising for one variation will it automatically cover the other variants or do you have to mix and match a few of them to cover the variants Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Michael Martinez: It depends on who you ask.

Some of the teams at Google (not all of them) define "long tail keywords" or "long tail queries" by volume of searches in a 90-day period, typically somewhere between 10 and 100 searches in a 90-day window.

The concept is based on dividing a distribution into "head", "body", and "tail". The head part consists of the 5-20% most active data points, the tail consists of the 50-70% least active data points. So there is a lot of flexibility in how to define "long tail" in terms of queries.

You could try comparing those variations in Google Trends and just assume arbitrarily that anything which is flattened by the most popular query is probaly "long tail enough", so to speak.

  • Youssef Zidouri: Hi Michael, i understand what you mean, however when it comes to optimising for example H1 tags, meta tags alt text etc, which variant from the example above would you input into these positions. If for example i use one version `personalised gold necklace` and input that into all the metas, h1 etc and someone searches on google gold necklace personalised, will i be covered?

  • Michael Martinez: Youssef Zidouri The semantic algorithms should be able to match any combination to most relevant queries. I would pick the one that makes the most sense to a human, or to you personally.

  • David Morgan: I do long tail differently.
