I have been paying a lot for seo services without any noticeable benefit

My company has been paying $500+ a month (6months so far) for seo services without any noticble benefit, should I instead invest google ads instead?

YOUR ANSWERS

Selected answers from the Dumb SEO Questions Facebook & G+ community.

  • Matthew Tatem: Maybe you have the wrong SEO company....what is your website and where are your targeted keywords?
  • Oscar Garza: Not necessarily. It can take time especially depending on competition and targeting area. Feel free to shoot me a message if you’d like me to take a look at what you have. Cheers
  • Sam Mah: Google ad is more expensive than anything else. Did you share your expectation with the SEO guy? What did the SEO guy respond?
  • Stephen McConville: A typical SEO answer. It depends.

So if the SEO company is good $500 might not be enough

If its bad, and you put ads on a website that isn`t setup to convert in the first place then you can potentially waste more money. Google ads can take your money really really quickly
  • Nathan Nikolay Gaidy: $500/month is nothing
It can take two years at that rate
  • Nathan Nikolay Gaidy: Baber Siddiqui I mean seriously
The minimum I charge for SEO is $250/week and that`s just for Google Listings and launching a business

    3 months $1000/month
  • Peeyush Dubey: This can not be answered until the experts here know what your company does and in what region.
  • Shivam Bhasin: Well, it depends. First of all you shouldn`t compare google ads with SEO.
I am doing both ads and seo for one of my client.
He pays me $1000/mo for seo and receives 250 calls and spends $1200/mo on ads (excluding my fees) and receives 120 calls from there.

Google ads can never beat the ROI of SEO, obviously if the SEO is on point.

Its very hard to answer your question without knowing what industry you`re in. Feel free to dm me to discuss.
  • Daniel Barbour: Mind sharing what your fees are? For the Google ads management, I mean..
  • Yassine Jabir: Change the company
  • Victoria Gitelshtein: I guess you were supposed to discuss with your SEO what benefits you are expecting within which time. And they were supposed to explain you what they are doing each month to try to achieve it. They still wouldnt be able promise but at least to match expectations.
If your company is new and you still do not have enough customers, google ads /facebook ads/any ads could be helpful. But not instead of SEO , just in addition.
  • Adam Filipowicz: So why does it take so long and why is it this expensive ? On a month to month basis what is actually being done to justify the investment?
  • Oleg Korneitchouk: well what are services are you paying for? link building is likely the main action being taken.. you can request what links the agency has built for you
  • Matthew van der Ende: No idea on what this provider is doing but $500 a month is not expensive for SEO. Not sure what your business is but think of page 1 rankings for competitive terms as being similar to renting an office or shop front in a highly trafficked area. It can provide similar value so businesses are willing to pay what is required to be seen there.
  • Will King: What SEO services are you actually paying for and how are you measuring ROI? It`s important to understand what your expectation is? TBH, $500 is at the low end of SEO monthly retainers. But at the very least you should know exactly how your hours are being utilised and what benefit/impact you should receive. If the answer to that question is at all ambiguous then you should find another SEO provider
  • Adam Filipowicz: Looking to find this out. I was not involved in choosing this seo provider and I’m not clear on the terms and ROI details.
  • Brandon Arceneaux: It`s not enough money to harvest good kws for each of your subcategories especially if your data disappears after 65 days like in Amazon
  • Peter Nikolow: Well - "it`s dependent" in short.

First - you need to check what kind of services are included in SEO subscription.
Second - you need to make extra check for this from independent contractor.
Third - Ads is different marketing channel that will help your business.
  • Jay Michael Raffa: Local service based SEO or national service/ product etc? Let me know you can get and should be getting results locally
  • Daniel Barbour: Hey Adam, greetings from Newfoundland! Let me know if you`d like me to take a look at the work that`s been completed and I can help you understand what`s going on with your SEO. No charge, just happy to help out.
  • Adam Inlay: SEO should be supplemented with marketing and a social presence. One is not a substitute for the other
  • Joshua McAdams: You`ve got to have some metrics based on goals set at the beginning. Almost any SEO worth his paycheck can get you some low-hanging fruit in six months for AT LEAST some traffic, if not leads.
