I have an SEO / Marketing related question and I hope to find an answer to it here

Hi All,

I have an SEO / Marketing related question and I hope to find an answer to it here.

I was working a bit on my website marketing yesterday and checking some Search Result positions of different products.
Doing so, I noticed that a free classifieds and ads website (locanto dot co dot za) showed up constantly high in the local  SOUTH AFRICAN (our market)  search results.

So I checked this site out a bit more and decided to just give it a go as in , if it doesn`t help, it won`t hurt.

Following up on things this morning however, I was a bit astonished about what I saw:
Any related keyword / key string , form the bare "credit card usb" to all long tail strings .... with printing, ..... with logo printing, .... with full color print, ...etc.,   on the local (South Africa) search, resulted in a position one of the ad that I posted a few hours ago.

On top of that, as you will see in the image below, the ads can contain a deep link to the specific product page on your website.

So here`s the question: Is this a great find? Or is this a big NO-?

Can I keep using this when I constantly link to the different specific pages on our website? Should I tread this path with caution ?
What`s your opinion people?

Looking forward to your reactions!

Regards

Edwin

  • happysus sait: for me go a head,  ;no specific anchor text link to your site.  ;If the link hard to get, should be ok. ;
  • Jaaved Khatree: Interesting find! It's not a hard link to get - you simply create an account, verify your email address and create your ad.. so given Google's track record of clamping down on tactics that are easily replicated/scalable, this might not last very long. I think in general, this is not a bad tactic as part of your 'business promotion' arsenal but it's something you should approach with caution -ie. don't use it for every single category on your site. Perhaps just stick to a handful of very popular ones?
  • Prince John: There's no link juice or SEO effect to consider here. If that is the only goal, it is a definite no-go.

    My reason is:

    If your business shows up in Locanto (or any similar site like that), it is good for the business - in terms of new customers. If you look to flood the site with the same ad in dozens of categories - that is simply bad. You are only going to waste a lot of your time and resources.

    Place an Ad in that Site to Get New Business - Not for Any Link Juice or SEO Purpose at all
  • Gifts and Gadgets: Hi +Jaaved Khatree ;, ;

    I believe you are more or less summing up what I was thinking as well.
    Let me just add it to my toolbox  ;and get it out when I feel I want to promote something as quick as possible without paying the big G for it :-)

    Have a great day!
  • Gifts and Gadgets: +Prince John ;yep!
    Reading the other comments,  ;I was thinking along the same line!
    Thanks for the response!

  • Gifts and Gadgets: +happysus sait ;great!
    You are also confirming the same line as other comments.
    Guess I know which way to go from here with this. ;
    Thanks for the response! Have a great one!
