HREF Lang issues

I work on a large e-commerce site that has multiple country sites like German, French, Etc. We have HREF lang tags that point to the German, French, etc sites, so in theory we should be covered. However, we have an error within Google Search Console about HREF Lang issues.

My question to you guys is this. The site I work on has a slightly different URL compared to the German, French, UK, etc. site. What I mean is that every other site goes (site.com/lang), but our site goes sitecountry.com/lang). Could that be the reason why I am seeing this error in Search Console since this is a completely different URL in Google`s eyes?

Thanks and You Guys Rock!!

  • Suraj Gadage: +Greg Kristan the problem arises only when the URL structure is different and not the domain name. Could you be specific in terms of what error message you are getting?
  • Greg Kristan: +Suraj Gadage ;Incorrect HREF Implementations. Basically says Page A Links with HREFLang B, there must be a link from B to A which we have
  • Suraj Gadage: +Greg Kristan another possibility, if your website is on https version and you have ussed http in the href lang tag code then you will get this error despite specifying the right url.
  • Greg Kristan: +Suraj Gadage ;that could be. We have both versions live on the site. We have the canonical set to HTTPS. but the HREF goes to HTTP. There is no 301 redirect at this time which is something being worked on
