SEMXE: soft 404 doesn't impact your rankings, until they are huge in number.
Tim Capper: Agree with +SEMXE, a soft 404 will not affect rankings.
The page that is showing as a soft 404, was that a page that you 301'd to another page?
Soft 404's generally show when G, cannot find the connection between the 301'd page and the new landing page, as in they cant find similar content.
EG: ;if you 301'd a page about "pink elephants" to a page about "pink unicorns", it will usually show as a soft 404.
I had a similar problem a couple of years ago with a site. The 301'd pages, where the best possible fit. I questioned John Mueller and he said they were fine, as they werer the best possible page to 301 to, and told me to leave them as they were, they eventually stopped showing as soft 404's after a couple of months.
Just make sure they are the best possible fit.
If it is a product and is no longer coming back then these should be 410
