He wants to "push" his online mugshot off the first page

A client received a dui and wants to "push" his online mugshot off the first page when googling his name. I dont want to say what his name is, but its fairly unique though not one of a kind. Also, I`m a web designer but this is my first foray into seo.His company website didn`t have his name anywhere on it, so we created a "meet the owner" page with his name in it. After a few weeks that page appeared on page 7 of google search results. He suggested we add his full name to the page of testimonials on his site, so I did that but should have researched first. The testimonials page appeared a couple weeks later around page 7, then the "meet the owner" page disappeared completely. Now its back intermittently, sometimes around page 7, sometimes nowhere at all, and the "testimonials" page hasn`t showed up at all.So, I am curious if anyone has any insight into what the next step should be. Would it be better to remove his name from the testimonials and meet the owner pages and put it on the homepage instead? I`m working on speeding up the site since I know that will help. Thank you for any feedback.

  • James Slattery: Look up "orm - online reputation mansgement"

  • Michael Martinez: Group expertYou cannot do this with only 1 Website. But any content you place on the business site should be about him exclusively (like a "founder`s biography"). If the client writes (or publishes) blog posts under his own name, you can use the archive.

The image filename should use his name. Use simple ALT= text (basically, "person`s name".

Add a caption that uses the person`s name.

Wherever you add his name throughout the site, link to that biography page using his name as the anchor text.

There is no guaranteed way to push the image off the front page of search results - and keep in mind that search results change based on device type, location, browser, etc. That said, if you can get his picture published on 10-15 sites (blogs, social media profiles, news site op-eds, etc.), you might be able to entice the search engines into displaying image galleries for his name and sort of "push" the DUI booking photo to the right. Most people won`t click on the slider buttons.

Search reputation management takes a lot of time and resources. It`s not something you do by changing 1 Website`s content or design.

  • Michael Martinez: Group expertDepending on where the client lives, it may be possible to get Google to remove the booking photo. The client may need to consult an attorney to determine what his rights to privacy are. They vary by region, even in the United States (some states make it much easier to get this stuff taken down than others).

  • Rye Smith: + Twitter profile with a few posts to kick it off+ Instagram profile with username + account name very close to real name (plus location)+ Add a couple of local business listings with his full name + bookkeeping services + Fully padded out LinkedIn profile

Should get most of the top spots sorted without much effort (Google my name - unique).

Couple of other things you can do with regards to reputation management but those I’ve mentioned are quick, easy and able to be managed by the client.

  • Boyd Trimmell: If this was my project, I would work with someone that specializes in online rapid management.

  • Matt Brown: Yeah you`ll have to take a multi-site approach and include social media marketing with his name. You basically have to build a brand around his name. Fortunately, it`s not that sophisticated because the SEO on mugshot pages isn`t all that great, it`s just a bit of work because of all of the angles you have to hit.

  • Chris Leonard: Thanks for the feedback everyone. We found a company that specializes in reputation management for individuals as opposed to companies so hopefully this will work.

  • Tom Sawyer: How about using a press release about the business owner to push it down or off of page 1?I have done press releases for my clients and have seen them fill page 1 results with the publications that picked up the release. You’ll need to use a good press release service. I can have a press release written and sent out to 400 publisher’s websites. It would be picked up by several of them, and by focusing on the persons name as the main subject, it would probably dominate page 1 and push that mug shot to page 2 or down to the bottom of page 1 at minimum. $300
