After working in the space for a few years now, I`m really curious how in-depth it will be. Interested in hearing about some of your experiences.?

  • Mike Stetzer: Have any of you been asked to take a "SEO Quiz" during the hiring process before working at a new company or agency?

After working in the space for a few years now, I'm really curious how in-depth it will be. Interested in hearing about some of your experiences.
  • Brent Wildman: Nope. I don't know of any companies that do it.

I don't see the real benefit of a quiz, all it really tells you if the person has memorized their SEO terms or not. When I'm looking to hire someone, I feel like engaging in conversation and asking some of the "trickier" questions is a better gauge of how much a person knows.
  • Micah Fisher-Kirshner: I've done quizzes myself when looking to hire a peer SEO Manager. It's helpful to gauge the type of person (ie: Moz cultist, blackhat, link builder only, more online marketer than SEO), but it's more Q&A quiz than an actual "When did update X occur?"
  • Jason Nelson: Yes, I interviewed for a job once and was asked about what was the Panda update, what was the Penguin update, etc.  ;The interviewee told me I was the only candidate up to that point to have correct answers :)
  • Dave Elliott: Had to write case studies but never a quiz
  • Micah Fisher-Kirshner: Plus, any true SEO's real answer is always "it depends" anyway. :P
  • Mike Stetzer: Appreciate the feedback. I figure it will be more of an assessment that one is "keeping up" in the industry as opposed to knowing definitions to foundational SEO terms like robots.txt files and what not.
  • Cristian Oana: I had to provide a strategy for a example site and review the current strategy.
  • Mike Stetzer: Great Point ;+Micah Fisher-Kirshner! Took some SEO Quizzes online just because I was curious. Found myself coming to the "it depends" answer quite often.
