Google+ for SEO reasons

Hi friends...knowing the stories about the alleged "demise" of Google+ (at least in its entirety), how would you answer the question about whether one should be on Google+ because of SEO reasons? This keeps coming up in my circles, so I`d like to give informed, intelligent answers. Thanks!

  • Chase Reiner: Do you mind sharing what you're referencing?
  • Tony “Tiggerito” McCreath: I'm on Google+ because of the people I meet here.

    Marketing wise, people should contribute in the channels where their customers are. If there is an active community on G+ related to what you do: get involved, network, help out and influence.
  • Dave Elliott: Yeah same as tony really. Although i wont lie i feel the fact that i have made these relationships will be more than a little useful for content amplification at some point.

    But, generally im here to learn from people whose knowlege is further developed than mine and to find out things i should learn that i dont need to know everyday in my job...and then apply that knowledge to it.

    Community over seo benefits.
  • Nancy Myrland: Trust me, I agree with you, +Dave Elliott ;and +Tony McCreath. This is definitely about building community. +Chase Reiner, this is coming up because many have only so much human bandwidth to spend time in social media. When the topic of Google+ comes up, some are saying, "Don't waste your time as it is a dying platform." Others are saying, "No, you need to have a presence there because Google will surface your G+ content in search results because, of course, it is their platform." My question is specifically directed at whether or not that (SEO statement) is true, and is a benefit they need to keep in mind. ;
  • Tony “Tiggerito” McCreath: Your posts can surface, but only to people who circle you. So it's a limited benefit in the search results.
