Does it matter that the robots.txt file is stored that deep on the server?

I recently went Live with a group of websites targeting the vacation rental industry. I have a question about where my web developer put the robots.txt file. I had to drill down through these folders on my server Admin>Assets>Foundation to find my robots.txt file. QUESTION. Does it matter that the robots.txt file is stored that deep on the server??

  • Kalpesh Bharankar: +Joe Mogensen robots.txt file must be in root folder of your website i.e. www.abc.com/robots.txt and not in any other folder of your website. Thanks!
  • Joe Mogensen: I thought that was odd. Can I just drag and drop the robots.txt file on to my root folder? Or do I need to create a new one?
  • Kalpesh Bharankar: +Joe Mogensen yes, you can do that also.
  • Joe Mogensen: Thank you!
  • Tony McCreath: I'd make sure it does what you want before making it live. It could be a development one designed to block all bots from the website.
