Do you still believe that Google +1s or Shares have a big impact on rankings?

Google +1 and Rankings
If someone still believe that Google +1s or Shares have a big impact on rankings I can show you and example of 3 pages:

1 - One with 328K +1
2 - One with 14K +1
3 - One with 1K +1

Do you know which one rank better for a very competitive term?

All the 3 URL are well optimized for that term under lots of perspective: topic, link, domain and all the stuff you know.

The winner is the number 3. A lot less +1 but a better ranking.

  • Rand Wilson: I would love to discuss this one if i am able to get on.
  • Andrea Pernici: Thanks Jim!
  • Micah Fisher-Kirshner: This is what is called anecdotal will be my main point. ;-)
  • Tim Capper: Great Topic.

+Andrea Pernici ;are you going to put together an article, with a bit more meat on the bone for us to look at?

Or perhaps join us on Thursday
  • Andrea Pernici: I think that putting together an Article on this topic is a little bit reductive on a one-keyword base cause there are many factors as all of us know that can affect the ranking for a single Key, but if I find the time to research more case like the above sure I will write something.

The only useful thing here I think is to disprove the Theory of more plus = better rankings.

What I see is that probably the plusses and shares are valuable only for not very competitive Key where the total number of share and +1 became greater than the total number of incoming BL (excluded those from G+).

I think it's a not so difficult concept to understand :)

Every case I see of demonstration of the impact of those factor on ranking are all made on very easy keywords where there is no real competition.
  • Jim Munro: Agreed, Andrea, I understand but would you consider joining us to talk about it tomorrow?

BTW 1K seems like a lot to me. Is it too late to include 5 and 50 in the comparison?
  • Andrea Pernici: What do you mean with adding 5 and 50?
  • Jim Munro: You have pages 1,2,3 with 328K, 14K, 1K. Do you know of similar page/term combinations where there are aditional pages which have attracted just 50 or 5 + 1's?
  • Andrea Pernici: Ah ok. I'll check. I want to collect more examples so probably I will look at those pages ;)
