Creating a pillar page for e-commerce site

Hi guys, recently someone mention to me to create a pillar page, i don`t quite understand what this means for a Ecommerce site. If the site is https://www.nakedcashmere.com/ would a piller page simply be a blog post about cashmere? Like: https://www.codogirl.com/…/a-guide-to-cashmere-everything-y…

  • Tim Capper: It depends really what the person meant by pillar page, personally never heard of it.

    But guides work exceptionally well.

You cant search for a snowboard in the US without this company in the top 5

    https://www.evo.com/guides
  • Michael Martinez: The idea of a "pillar page" or "pillar post" comes from a recent trend in blog content classification among marketers that I personally feel is kind of goofy.

This is one formula I`ve seen people using:

__1 Pillar posts (3500 words long, in-depth analysis)
__2 Staple posts (2200-2500 words long, often lists)
__3 Response posts (answers to questions - 1200 to 1500 words)

This is a highly artificial classification system and I would never use it.

Question and answer articles can be any length. They may or may not drive sales. They may or may not attract links. They may or may not outrank competitive content.

For an ecommerce site you do want good category or section pages that present users with clear actions and guidance to what kinds of products they`ll find.
