Dumb SEO Questions

Copying and publishing reviews.

Hello everyone,

We need your help. We want to show our training institute`s reviews on our website. We have got couple of reviews on our Google Plus page, Facebook page and also received few on our personal email.

Is it OK and according to Google`s guideline, if we show our Google Plus and Facebook page reviews on our website as images (screenshot) or as normal text? And if normal text (copy & paste) is OK, won`t it be duplicate content issue?

We have seen couple of websites doing this and they are using structured data to mark up their reviews with Schema. So, do you think it is ethical and can we do the same on our website?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks?

  • Jim Munro: I am not an expert, +promoz seo, but I would copy positive Google reviews ;and others verbatim and link back to them to that users may verify. I say that but I should also tell you that I'm still waiting for someone to give me a positive review. :)
  • Ryon McCamish: Don't copy and paste reviews. It'll be seen as duplicated content. I would either just take a portion of it or get reviews the old fashioned way and ask to use them online.
  • promoz seo: Ok, if copy paste is not OK, then can we use the screenshot images of the reviews from G+ and FB pages on our website? Surely with a link back to the original review page.
  • Jim Munro: I would copy paste and point out where the original is located. No doubt you'll have reviews from many sources on your page. You would link to each review so that the users can check for themselves. You are making their task easier for them.

    This is just an opinion but I doubt that each review being a copy of something that is elsewhere on the web is an issue to be concerned about. ;

    This would be a good question to ask of John Mueller. The next Office Hours HOA is on Friday Nov 7.
