Yelp`s insight shows 50% higher

I am pulling my hair out. I can`t understand why Google Analytic data showing Yelp 50% less traffic from referral and Yelp`s insight shows 50% higher traffic going to a website from Yelp page. Who do I believe? Why`s there a big difference in data?

  • Dave Elliott: Where is your analytics script on the page? If it is anywhere other than the top of the page then it might be that users are bouncing before the script kicks in. Or do you have a ga filter that is causing users to not be counted? Personally i trust the data of the people that aren't selling you anything over the ones that are...in this case google.
  • Tim Capper: I agree with +Dave Elliott check you ga filter. I had a similar issue with booking button across some hotels.
  • Sam “H” Mah: +Dave ElliottI put Google script on the bottom of the page. Are you now suggesting to put this script on top instead?
+Tim CapperI never did anything with GA fliter except to exclude my IP address.
  • Suraj Gadage: +Sam Mah besides other things mentions by Tim and Elliot, one more thing to consider is if a website is on https:// and linking out or redirecting to a http:// website, then browser will not send referrer data because of security reasons. That means all of the websites you are sending the traffic to will see your traffic as direct traffic.

  • Sam “H” Mah: I see, but this site does not have an SSL certificate. Just moved a Google Analytic script to top of the page now. Hopefully this solves my client's problem. Thanks for your message +Suraj Gadage
