Which rating service should we use?

One of our customers is running a webshop in Belgium which will expand to other countries in Europe soon.
He asked us to implement a rating service so that they could ask customers for their rating after they`ve received their order.

The question is: which rating service should we use? Or can we use our own rating system? What`s the best way to go??

  • SeoWix: if it is a Wordpress site, i would recommend using GD Star rating plugin by ;Milan Petrovic. ;
    in other case if this site use woocommerce plugin for transaction then the review and rating system is integrated within it.
  • Rutger Meekers: It's not a Wordpress site.

    The question is, what is the best solution SEO wise, not the easiest one to implement.
  • Shawn Cohen: I like how CNET does their reviews ;http://download.cnet.com/YTD-Video-Downloader/3000-2071_4-10647340.html?tag=main;pop.
    They often get double rich snippets in the SERPs with the way they have their review and rating system formatted along w/ videoobject schema.
  • Mark Steenbakkers: +Rutger Meekers I think the best option is to use a third-party rating service who is an official Google partner. All review service companies have widgets to incorporate the ratings/reviews in your web site.

    If you also add the proper microdata to your web pages Google will show the ratings in the SERP.

  • Shawn Cohen: +Mark Steenbakkers ;don't third-party reviews only appear in paid search ads? I'm not aware of third party rating services that show up in organic search engine results but maybe I've missed that somewhere...
  • Rutger Meekers: Yeah, we have the paid ads, but on the other hand the organic results. Maybe it doesn't has any influence at all on the organic results?
  • Mark Steenbakkers: We used a third party third-party review service company in combination with "schema.org" markup in a Magento shop and the reviews and price are shown in the organic search results.

    In this case, we use a shop review, not a product review. You have to add the "schema.org" structured markup to your web page.

    Follow the Google Rich Snippets&Reviews guidelines and don't use spammy techniques such as marking up content that will be invisible, and do not manipulate the rating in your favor.
  • Rutger Meekers: +Mark Steenbakkers ;thanks for the information. Which third-party review service did you use?
  • Mark Steenbakkers: The feedback company (Dutch).
